NarPhu Valley Trek

Overview Departures Itinerary Inclusion Exclusion Gallery

Trip Overview

The Nar Phu Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich trekking experiences, taking you into a hidden valley north of the Annapurna region. Opened to trekkers only in recent years, this restricted area offers a rare glimpse into preserved Tibetan culture, ancient monasteries, and traditional lifestyles.

The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Koto, where the trail diverges from the popular Annapurna Circuit. From here, the route enters a dramatic and secluded valley, leading through narrow canyons, high suspension bridges, and barren landscapes.

The trek passes through the isolated villages of Meta, Phu, and Nar, where centuries-old traditions remain intact. Acclimatization days in Phu and Nar allow for proper altitude adjustment and exploration of the surrounding landscapes.

A major highlight of the trek is crossing the challenging Kang La Pass (5,320m), offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna range. The trail then descends to Ngawal and reconnects with the Annapurna Circuit before returning to Kathmandu.

Best Seasons to Travel

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) offer the best conditions with clear skies and stable weather.

Notes to Travelers

This trek is moderately to highly challenging and requires good physical fitness. Prior trekking experience is recommended due to high altitude and remote conditions.

Accommodation is in basic teahouses with limited facilities due to the remoteness of the region. Special restricted area permits and a licensed guide are mandatory for this trek. Proper acclimatization is essential to ensure safety while crossing high passes.

The Nar Phu Valley Trek is a journey into a hidden Himalayan world, where untouched culture and raw landscapes create an unforgettable adventure.
