Yala Peak
Peak Overview
Yala Peak (5,520m) is one of Nepal's most accessible and rewarding trekking peaks, offering climbers a spectacular high-altitude adventure combined with the beautiful Langtang Valley Trek. Located in the Langtang Himal range, this peak provides breathtaking panoramic views of some of the world's highest mountains including Shishapangma (8,027m) in Tibet, Langtang Lirung (7,234m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Ganchempo (6,388m), and Ganesh Himal (7,422m).
What makes Yala Peak particularly special is that it is considered a non-technical climb, making it an excellent introduction to Himalayan mountaineering for beginners and those with limited time. Unlike many other trekking peaks in Nepal, Yala Peak does not require prior technical climbing experience or the use of fixed ropes. The climb involves walking on gradual snow slopes and short sections that can be easily managed with basic guidance from your climbing Sherpa.
With Himalayan Karma Treks, you will experience a meticulously planned expedition that combines cultural immersion, stunning trekking, and thrilling peak climbing—all under the guidance of experienced, certified mountaineering professionals. This 14-day journey follows the beautiful Langtang Valley trail, passing through lush rhododendron forests, traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages, and the spiritual haven of Kyanjin Gompa before ascending to the summit of Yala Peak.
The Nepal Mountaineering Association has classified Yala Peak as a trekking peak, and since it is below 5,800 meters, no special climbing permit is required—only a standard trekking permit, making it more affordable and accessible than many other peak climbing adventures.
Best Seasons to Travel
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for the Yala Peak Climbing, offering stable weather, clear mountain views, safe trail conditions, and comfortable climbing temperatures. Spring offers blooming rhododendron forests, while autumn provides crisp, clear views with excellent visibility for summit attempts. Winter climbing is also possible but more challenging due to snow and colder temperatures.
Notes to Travelers
This expedition is moderately challenging and recommended for trekkers with good fitness levels. The climb reaches altitudes over 5,500 meters and requires proper acclimatization. However, Yala Peak is considered an excellent introductory peak and does not require prior technical climbing experience.
The Yala Peak is classified as a trekking peak by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Since it is below 5,800 meters, it does not require a special climbing permit—only standard trekking permits. Himalayan Karma Treks arranges all necessary permits for your expedition.
Accommodation ranges from comfortable hotels in Kathmandu to basic teahouses during the trekking sections and tented camps during the climbing phase. At higher altitudes, facilities are very basic with limited amenities.
The climb involves gradual snow slopes and short sections that may require the use of crampons. Your climbing guide will provide a pre-climb training session at base camp to familiarize you with essential climbing techniques and equipment.
Transportation includes a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (6-7 hours) and a return drive. Road conditions can be rough and delays due to weather or road conditions are possible.
Permits required include the Langtang National Park entry permit and TIMS card. These are arranged by Himalayan Karma Treks.
Health considerations include altitude sickness prevention, proper acclimatization, and travel insurance covering emergency evacuation up to 5,600m. Consult your physician before embarking on this expedition.
